PROJECT SUMMARY
The completed sitework master plan features a new perimeter road, newly organized parking fields, increased green space and drop-off access to every major entrance of the hospital. The hospital now has a “Campus Feel” with an emphasis on traffic flow, patient safety and user convenience. Parking fields are broken up by landscaping and contoured green spaces so that the thousands of cars that visit the hospital each day never appear as a sea of cars.
Coupled with a new entrance road from Rte. 202, the retooled campus has a completely new approach. With the use of perimeter travel-ways, round-about traffic controls and counter clock wise drop-offs, the driver seldom crosses oncoming traffic. Almost all navigation on the site is accomplished outside of the parking fields. The design directs the driver into a right hand merge option rather than requiring them to stop and cross oncoming traffic. Stopping and turning requirements are reduced by 80%. The result is a more efficient, more satisfying and a safer experience for the Hospital’s patients.
