At the J.V. Fletcher Library groundbreaking, in Westford, Mass., we were reminded that libraries are good for reading and research but great for meeting friends, old and new.
The library building project will preserve the street facing historical façade and certain elements within, and add a modern addition that will increase the overall square footage of the building to 35,159 SF (from 22,456).
The project will:
🧩 Double the space for children
🎉 Triple the space for young adults, teens, and tweens
🪑Double the public meeting spaces
🍃 Centralize circulation and offer better flow
🔕 Increase silent, tutorial, and collaborative study options
👩💻 Improved technology
🚗 Improved traffic flow
🧑🦼➡️Fully handicap accessible and up to code
🚽 Public restrooms on every floor
⚡️Energy efficiency improvements
This $32.5 million (according to the J.V. Fletcher Library Friends Foundation) project is scheduled to reopen in 2027 📖
