North Acton Fire Station 4 is a steel and wood one-story fire sub-station with split faced masonry veneer and cement panel siding. Interior spaces consist of a decontamination room, S.C.B.A. room, firefighter dormitory rooms, a day room and kitchen, apparatus bays with training props and mezzanine.
The scope of work included demolition of two existing buildings on the site, utilities and surface improvements. Site upgrades included a new septic system and tight tank for the apparatus bay floor drains. This was a DCAMM Certified project.
The new low-emissions station, which uses geothermal heating and cooling, began operations in February. Since then, the station’s new solar rooftop has generated 12.2-mega watt hours.
