PROJECT SUMMARY
The Simonds Hall Lofts project involved the complete interior demotion and renovation and additions to the old Preservation Mill. The Simonds Hall Lofts are off-campus student housing suites for Fitchburg State University students and are located just one block from the University’s Campus.
The ADA compliant building consists of four floors of 39 living units with optional three or four bedroom suites and includes central air conditioning. The renovations and additions to this historic mill building conversion into student housing allowed space for beautiful twelve foot ceilings and a freight sized passenger elevator. The building renovations complied with up-to-date historical code requirements in order for the owner to receive tax credits.
The MEPs were design/build with restrictive budgets and challenging existing conditions. The fast-track schedule and double work shifts ensured that the facility was ready for the new school year.
